Former National Disability Insurance Agency chairman Bruce Bonyhady urges the federal government to scrap changes to NDIS eligibility testing, saying they have spread fear and stress among Australians with disabilities.

An architect of the National Disability Insurance Scheme wants the federal government to scrap its overhaul of eligibility testing for the program, saying the changes have spread fear and stress among Australians with disabilities.Professor Bonyhady fears assessors will not have the time or the tools to understand people's needs

"Unfortunately, it is clear that the announcement of the introduction of [independent assessments] has created enormous fear, stress and concern amongst NDIS participants, their families and carers,""It is therefore disturbing that the NDIA intends to replace the current planning process with an almost total reliance on independent assessments."

Under the new model, applicants will be examined by private contractors using questionnaires and other tools designed to assess capacity. He also says the assessment sessions — which have to run for at least 20 minutes, but typically last 2.5 to three hours — are not long enough to determine an applicant's disability.

In a statement, Mr Robert said the changes would align the scheme's assessment processes with the original design of the NDIS by the Productivity Commission in 2011. "It will inevitably lead to participants and their advocates identifying every impairment in order to increase the likelihood of a sufficient resource allocation," he writes.

To quote Margaret Atwood - 'Stupidity is the same as evil if you judge by the results'stuartrobertmp YOU ARE WRONG... PWD are telling you. ADVOCATES are telling you. ONE OF THE DUDES WHO BUILT THE DAMN SCHEME IS TELLING YOU. Listen. handsoffthendis stoptheIA

AustralianStory Its the service providers that are massively rorting the system with overly priced charges. You mane a price enquiry and their response is NDIS or not. That is what needs to be controlled.

I know people who work on ndis and there are so many absurd stories of absolute waste and excess. It's disgusting. People work their ass off for that tax money only for it to be pissed away by blokes like this.

Are you Fit4Work? I’m guessing the NDIS assessment under stuartrobertmp will be like this. IDanielBlake NDIS auspol ScottMorrisonMP billshortenmp KenLoachSixteen LNPfail

The NDIS was doomed from the start pjmcgrth alisonmcclymont Independent Assessments just the latest bandaid. The Orgs who are “speaking out” now were very ones who told PWD to ask for IA’s to get in. They wanted the NDIS so badly they demonised any who tried to point out flaws

Another lnp stuff up and gutting of funded government services so more money can go to minig companies and lnp donors like news corp

The NDIS is out of control at the moment. This guy needs to get real about what is going on. The switched on are creaming the scheme with elaborate plans and related claims. Others are unsupported and prey to private profiteers. Diagnosis and plans need accountability.

Maybe JoshFrydenberg could force the repayments as well as the profits businesses have made via Jobkeeper in order for this government to keep its dirtyhands off the NDIS These are people's lives, lives that have needs & rights who have never seen a profit only tough times.

There was another report on future NDIA/NDIS assessments in which I saw on the Internet a few weeks ago now. I personally don't know how the NDIS is going to survive in the future if the Australian Federal Government is cutting back on the funding for this.
