Health Minister Christine Elliott says the Progressive Conservative government has decided to make the change after holding a six-day public consultation that ended Tuesday.
The program currently covers out-of-country inpatient services to a maximum of $400 per day for a higher level of care, such as intensive care, as well up to $50 per day for emergency outpatient services, and doctor services. Elliott says the program's administrative costs are too high and the level of coverage too low to help travellers who already largely depend on private travel insurance.
She says a broader public outreach effort will be needed to remind travellers to purchase health insurance before they leave the country.
Good job .... Keep cutting the fat off until the budget is happy and the deficit is in decline. Sooo many useless programs that could be revisited , anylized for its effectiveness, stacked into priority and renegotiated or cut out completely!
Good. It was so useless, I always had to pay for private insurance going anywhere anyways! No need for redundancy
Pretty sure no one even knew there was such a thing.I travel a lot and had no idea this even existed.
Thank you fordnation ! Why did Canadian Tax payers pay for travel insurance for folks vacationing in Florida & other warm places ? Make them purchase their own private insurance for holidays, Eh ?
What's next to cut guys? Flu shots? Extra curricular activities for children? Targeting the disabled and seniors? 🧐
Cue a bunch of people who had no idea OHIP even offered such a thing but are still outraged at Douglas' latest actions.
Insurance companies will be thrilled
Good move to combat climate change.
