Talat Farman, 54, and her son Abraham Rock, 36, both Singaporeans, ultimately managed to cheat nearly $130,000 from CPF and NTUC Income.
In 2017, Rock came up with a plan to fake his mother’s death for insurance payouts as he was facing financial difficulties. Between 31 July 2017 and 20 April 2018, Rock bought two Great Eastern insurance policies for Talat and two annual travel insurance from MSIG and AXA for Talat’s travel in 2018. He then submitted claims to the CPF Board to withdraw Talat’s monies from her CPF account, and death benefit insurance claims to insurers AXA, MSIG, NTUC and Great Eastern Life Assurance.
Investigations later found that Talat was alive and residing in Pakistan. Arrangements were made for her to return to Singapore on 29 November last year.Rock lost life savings: defenceLawyer Trent Ng, who represented the duo, said Rock made the “ill-fated decision” to invest his $300,000 life savings with a British national in 2014. The latter left Singapore in July 2015 and became uncontactable.
