Concern has been expressed that the South African Insurance Association vehicle salvage database is not picking up all the vehicles that have been written off, exposing consumers, dealers and others to the risk of unknowingly buying written-off vehicles at inflated prices.

He said there is also concern that while access is free, it is limited only to individuals and not to commercial entities, and the number of searches is restricted to only five searches per individual per month, he said.
