Jeremy Hunt's Budget is criticized for prioritizing tax cuts for the wealthy over public spending that helps the poor. The only chance of Jeremy Hunt’s Budget turning into a Tory general election win is if voters suffer from collective memory loss. Hunt would like people across the UK to be grateful for the 2p cut to national insurance he announced in the Commons. But this was after his party landed the British public with the highest tax burden on record. He also wants credit for hitting the Government’s target on inflation, despite the soaring price rises of last year being irreversible.

Crumbs from the table were provided to folk on low incomes, but these measures were far outweighed by a measly one per cent rise in public spending. Hunt is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and the Budget he delivered was the austerity sequel to the Cameron/Osborne years. Charities and campaign groups pleaded with him to prioritise the cost-of-living crisis and starved public services but these pleas were ignored.
